THE DORDOGNE RIVER – THE MASCARET TIDAL BORE

The phenomenon of the Mascaret tidal bore happens when there is a sudden rise of the water level of the Dordogne River. The best place in France to observe a Mascaret or surf one is undoubtedly the Dordogne River, not far from Libourne at the port of Saint Pardon, where the natural phenomenon can be over three kilometres long. The best time to enjoy this tidal bore is in early September.
